Medical Industry DC Fans
Medical applications demand fans that are quiet, energy-efficient, and built to run continuously without failure. YS Tech's DC fans are designed to meet those requirements - operating at low noise levels suitable for patient-facing environments, delivering measurable energy savings in facilities running multiple devices simultaneously, and maintaining reliable performance in demanding conditions.
All DC fan models are available in custom configurations covering size, airflow, speed control, and connector requirements. YS Tech's engineering team understands the regulatory standards specific to medical device manufacturing and designs to meet compliance requirements from the outset, so the products arriving at your facility are ready for integration without additional qualification work.

Medical Device Case Study:
Custom Fan Design for a Compact, Battery-Powered Device
A medical device client needed to develop a lightweight, compact machine with outstanding battery life at a competitive price point. The core engineering challenge: keeping the compressor cool enough to operate at peak performance while drawing minimal power.
Their initial approach used multiple fans and blowers placed at various points within the device - one to draw cool air through a filter, one to cool the compressor and control PCB, and one to exhaust hot air. While this dissipated heat effectively, it drew far too much power to meet battery life targets.
Reducing the number of cooling devices was the obvious path forward. Axial fans offered high airflow (CFM) but couldn't overcome the static-pressure resistance of tightly packed components in a small enclosure. Off-the-shelf blowers could deliver the static pressure but not the airflow. No standard product could do both.
Using a computer simulation of the client's system, YS Tech engineered a custom axial fan that solved both problems in a single unit.
Results:
- 17+ CFM airflow at nearly 1 inch of static pressure
- Under 2 watts power draw
- Near-silent operation
Prototypes were produced quickly, and test results exceeded expectations - enabling the client to meet all power, space, and noise objectives in a single cooling device.
Engineering support continued beyond the initial design. YS Tech provided locked-rotor protection to prevent overheating or burnout if the fan blades became obstructed, custom Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control for regulating speed from zero to maximum RPM, and IP-rated versions for operation in environments with dust, moisture, or harsh chemicals. UL, CUL, and TUV test documentation was also provided, streamlining the client's FDA compliance process.
More Information on Medical Industry DC Fans
What types of fans does YS Tech USA supply for medical applications?
YS Tech USA supplies DC axial fans, EC blowers, and custom thermal assemblies for medical device and healthcare equipment manufacturers. Standard catalog products cover most common requirements; custom designs are available for applications where size, performance, noise, or regulatory specifications fall outside standard ranges.
Why are DC fans preferred in medical equipment?
DC fans offer precise speed control, low noise output, and high energy efficiency - all critical in medical environments where acoustic limits are strict, power budgets are tight, and continuous reliable operation is non-negotiable. Brushless DC motor technology also eliminates brush wear, extending service life and reducing maintenance requirements in equipment that runs continuously.
What regulatory standards do YS Tech USA's medical fans comply with?
YS Tech USA's fans for medical applications are designed to comply with IEC 60601, the international standard for the safety and performance of medical electrical equipment. UL, CUL, and TUV test documentation is available to support FDA compliance and device certification processes.
Can YS Tech USA design a custom fan for a medical device?
Yes. YS Tech USA's engineering team works directly with medical device engineers to design custom fans and blowers that meet exact dimensional, performance, acoustic, and regulatory requirements. Custom engagements are supported by CFD simulation, rapid prototyping, and full test documentation - including locked rotor protection, PWM speed control, and IP-rated configurations for use in environments with dust, moisture, or harsh chemicals.
What is locked rotor protection and why does it matter in medical applications?
Locked rotor protection is a built-in safety function that prevents a fan motor from overheating or burning out if the blades become obstructed. In medical devices where fan failure could compromise patient safety or device performance, locked rotor protection is a critical design requirement rather than an optional feature.
How do I specify a fan for a medical device application?
Key inputs include available envelope dimensions, target airflow (CFM or m³/h), static pressure requirements, operating voltage, acoustic limits (dBA), power budget, IP rating requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. Contact YS Tech USA to discuss your application with an engineer - the team can assist with requirement scoping if full specifications aren't yet defined.
